Higginbottom Pharmacy is the only independent pharmacy in Ferryhill and has been serving the community for over 40 years. We pride ourselves in our friendly approach and professional attitude towards our customers old and new.
We continue to offer a wide range of services, whilst processing repeat and walk-in prescriptions. As healthcare professionals, our pharmacists provide advice on your medication, treatments, and a wide range of health-related topics. They will provide information and advise you on how best to take your medication, including any side effects to expect, and may also refer or signpost you to a more appropriate healthcare service.
Our pharmacy team are trained in providing information in all our services, and in most instances, can provide sound advice under the supervision of a pharmacist. Here at Higginbottoms we are dedicated to promoting healthy living and encourage you to take advantage of all the services we have to offer. If you need to speak to us in private, we have a consultation room where you can talk to a member of our team.

Pharmacist James Rotherham has been qualified for over 20 years and has been at the helm of Higginbottom Pharmacy for over 10 of those years. He prides himself on his management of the team whilst providing an excellent service to the community, including advice on medication and health-related topics. He consults and carries out the annual flu vaccination programme, which gives patients the opportunity to chat to him one-on-one.
Sandra is our longest-serving member of staff who has been at Higginbottom Pharmacy for over 45 years and is responsible for all dosette box dispensing and liaising with patients.
Sue is the first face you see when entering the pharmacy. With over 20 years of experience working on our chemist counter, she will provide you with sound advice on common minor ailments and is a level-2 Smoking Cessation advisor.
Sophie, one of our dispensers, puts customer service at the heart at everything she does. She enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and thrives in the dispensing process, dealing with a high volume of prescriptions and ordering of vital medications. She also carries out the earwax removal service, is a level-2 Smoking Cessation advisor and is also available for c-card consultations.
Trainee Pharmacist Caitlin is newly qualified from Newcastle University and has become a part of the team after 4 years of training. She is dedicated to providing advice on all things health whilst liaising with her colleagues to provide an excellent service. She aims to provide and build on the variety of consultation-led clinics we have to offer and is always looking to improve care within the community.
Finally, Ken our delivery driver. Nothing is too much trouble for him as he puts patient care at the top of his priorities – weathering all conditions to ensure timely delivery of your medicines.
